It started as a passion project…

Just like all amazing creations, it started as just a vision. This traditional deck of 54 playing cards has a powerful spin. This deck features the faces of historical black figures. From Malcolm X to Michelle Obama, the Revolution Card Deck is meant to inspire. Both a good time, as well as much needed conversations, about representation, activism, and black culture.

The Process

Manufacturing

The Revolution Card Deck started as just a mock up, the next step was to transform that into a physical product. It could either end up really amazing or not so great. So as I completed the deck, I began exploring options for manufacturing. I discovered a manufacturer who’s specialty was custom card deck, Shuffled Ink, based in LA. I brought them my idea and excitedly completed the design of the cards and the box.

Marketing and Press

I’m a firm believer that an idea can’t be a reality until you share it with someone. My marketing plan was fueled by one goal and that was to get this product in front of as many eyes as possible. So leading up to it’s release I reached out to some friends who I absolutely knew could help me with that. With friends at CNN, Made In KC, and KSHB 41 Action News, I began to share my story and the upcoming release of the The Revolution Card Deck.

Fullfillment

After an amazing press run sales were amazing. I landed upon Square to sell and fulfill my product. With 600+ orders to pack, label, and ship, I had quite the task on my hands. But learning was the theme of this whole process, so I without hesitation I dove in.
